Chapter 1: Computers around us
Lesson 1: What is a Computer?
Unplugged Activity 1.1
- Warm Up (5 mins)
- Activity (30 mins)
- Presentation (15 mins)
This hand-on session helps the students realize that computer is one of the most important elements in our lives. The students will work in groups to sort pictures from Activity 1.1 Handout into “is a computer” or “is not a computer” on poster paper and explain their motivations for choosing some of the most difficult categorizations. The teacher then introduces a definition of the computer and allows groups to revise their posters according to the new definition.

Lesson 2: Classify Electronic Devices Containing Computational Processors that Execute Programs
Students will watch the video: Types of Computers
Unplugged Activity 1.2

- Presentation (15 mins)
After learning the four major types of computers, the students will work in groups to identify at least three examples for each of the four major categories. They will utilize the pictures from Activity 1.2 Handout.

Lesson 3: Learning more about Embedded computers
Students will watch the video: Unique Features of Embedded Computers
Unplugged Activity 1.3

After learning about the unique features of embedded computers, the students will work in groups to identify at least ten different devices which include embedded computers. Each team will display their findings to the class.

Chapter 2: Hardware Software Interface
Lesson 1: Hardware vs Software

Unplugged Activity 2.1
- Warm Up (5 mins)

- Presentation (15 mins)
After learning about the difference between hardware and software the students will work in groups to identify at least ten examples of hardware and ten examples of software. Each team will share their findings and thoughts to the class. They will utilize the examples from Activity 2.1Handout.

Lesson 2: Components of Computers

Unplugged Activity 2.2

- Presentation (15 mins)
After learning about the different parts of computer, the students (this activity can also be done by an IT personnel of the school) will open an old computer to identify the major components inside.
